"Ling" - Stroke my head

The "Purr! Purr!" was getting louder and louder still. Then all of a sudden it stopped. I turned around on the towel, which was on the couch, and there he was. Just sitting there. Looking at me. I mean, just looking at me. "What! For Pete's sake. What do you want?!" I shouted. No reaction. I jumped up and down a bit. No reaction. Did the hoopla, and still no reaction. He just sat there staring at me. Now, I know he could make it up here. One fowl swoop, and I would be his breakfast. My heart was pounding in my little chest. It was beating so fast and I couldn't understand why. Was this a natural reaction to dogs. Was I supposed to feel this way when coming into contact with other animals. I mean, as strange as this dog seemed, he was just staring at me. Nothing happened.
He must have heard the woman coming back now, because he turned his head in the direction of the kitchen.
She came back into the living room with Phatty in tow. "Leave the baby bird alone!" she commanded the animals. And with that Musch Musch turned away to brush up against Phatty, who was far from aware this even happened. So that's what I was, A bird.
Phatty was so concerned with what was going to happen to me next, that he was beside himself. He was whining about something, but I could not make out a word he was saying. I wonder if the woman understood him. He seems to be able to understand her. He looks at her so adoringly when she speaks. With those puppy-dog eyes. Cute man. He follows her wherever she goes. Up and down, always behind her. Not wanting to miss a thing.
She comes over to me and ever so gently picks me up, carrying me over to my box and puts me back down on her jersey in my box. She began to stroke my head. She was really good at it. Mmmm... I thought as I started drifting off to sleep. I heard her speak to the dog. It sounded so far away. I thought I heard her ask the dog "Is this Phatty's bird?" Then I was wide awake. As if struck by a bolt of lightning. "Phatty's Bird!?" I chirped out loudly.
"Oh my goodness," she gasped, "did that strike a nerve?". "Well we can't have that." she smiled. She continued to stroke my head and then after a while she said, "You get some more rest now, so that you can grow big and strong.I'll check up on you later".
With that she turned to go out into the garden with Phatty and Musch Musch right behind her. Something about checking on the fish pond.

"Ling" - Falling over while feeding

Morning? Wow! Hey look, the sun is out. Man that feels good. It's as though my whole body just went through a moment  of pure bliss. All warm and  fuzzy inside. The light from the sun is so bright  and all the colors are so clear. So this is what a new day looks like. Great isn't it?
My tummy could use some food. I wonder where that woman is? Oh look here she comes now. Food!
I think she feeding me with dog food again. Maybe she knows that I am not really fussy at this stage. Anything will do. She really is gentle. She holds me up when I start to fall over and she wipes my mouth when I mess. Still with the "Piep! Piep". I wonder if she thinks that she is actually making sense. Maybe she believes that all I need is some encouragement. Softly murmuring all the time she is feeding me.
The food is going straight to my stomach now. I feel so full of energy that I can just take right off. Oops! I think I will have to first learn to stand properly. Get a good grounding for takeoff. Feet firmly on the ground and...Oops! Again.
Oh well, that might take a while. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon.
Look who's come to visit. Its that strange dog again. He seems very concerned with this feeding process. A little moaning on his part too. Look at the way he is staring at me. What on earth does he want. Is he waiting for me to fatten up so that he can eat me? He is far too excited to just be an observer. Maybe he is meant to watch over me and protect me. If that is the case, I would say he is doing a good job.
Now where is she going? She is not going to leave that dog here with me, is she? Oh! OK. She is calling him to go with her. "Phatty come!" she called.Whew! Imagine that. All alone with "mister pick me up in his mouth". Where did he get his name from. He is not fat, or slow for that matter. Phatty...mmm...Phatty...maybe because he is a phat dog. Do you even get phat dogs?
Right! The coast is clear. I think I'll try to make a run for it. After all, she is gone, and the dog is gone. Wait a minute. Where is that other strange dog she calls "Musch, Musch"? He seems very sly. Tiptoeing around so nobody can hear where he is. I saw him jump all in one bound, up onto a windowsill. That's not normal for a dog I thought. I thought I heard him hovering around my box last night. He let out a strange soft bark  "Meow". At first I thought I was imagining it. Just pushed the thought aside at the time. But now that I am standing here all alone...I wonder where he is? I get this creepy feeling he is watching me from somewhere. Somewhere close. Wait I can hear "Purr. Purr."

"Ling" - Hand Feeding a Baby Starling

My eyes were shut for all of a minute, when the human woman comes into the lounge with what seems could feed the nest upstairs. She gently nudges me to see if I'm awake. If there's food I'm awake.
She then ever so gently puts her hands under me and closes them around me mumbling something to do with Reiki. She kept drawing little signs and I, kept thinking it was food. I still could not make out everything 100% yet. Especially if it kept moving around.
Then she lowered me over to one hand and down to the couch where her jersey was. I was left standing practically on one foot on her hand. I was OK with that.
The next thing she whips out this gigantic syringe. I mean what was she thinking? Did she care how I would react to a great big strange looking thing coming flying my way. Did she think I was born with the knowledge of this.
No, she was expecting me to react by opening my mouth.
Anyway with a bit of training I got her to start putting little bits onto the sides of my mouth. Gently She would drizzle some amazingly delicious concoction on the sides of my mouth and the juices would slip slowly into my mouth.
Hey! Wait a minute. I know she smells like the garden, but what's that other smell. I know that smell. That smells like that dogs breath. So that's what that was. Dog food mixed with water. At first I thought the water had just suddenly become very thick. Aye! Clever human. Who would have known. I, for one would never had dreamed of you giving me, a bird, dog food. Had I not been picked up by that dog with his mouth. The idea made me dizzy and so I shouted out "Hey! How about some applesauce or mashed worm!" Heh! Heh! That should get her thinking.
She paid me no mind and kept trying to get that food down my throat, murmuring "Piep! Piep!" like I was some kind of an idiot. I understand you woman, but why can't you understand me?
Well I suppose it is just as well because as soon as I can fly I am out of here. All I smell is that dog and some other kind of dog which she refers to as "Musch, Musch". Pretty nimble little fellow. I think he is pretending to ignore me. Just saying. Every now and again I find him looking at me very peculiarly.
And that big overgrown monster of a dog, well, he seems more confused than any trouble really. Always fussing when someone or something comes near me. Like he is trying to protect me, or something. Maybe this won't be so bad here after all. I'll just setup headquarters over here and gather up that take charge attitude I know I must have, and,...and,... Ooh! I'm getting sleepy now. What was in that stuff she was feeding...zzzzz

"Ling" - the Baby Starling

I woke up this morning with the feeling that every thing was going to go my way. I hopped about the nest and finally manage to get out and onto the roof. I was so proud of myself. So much so that I did not take note of the wind. I had just managed to get a steady footing when a great big gush of wind knocked me over. I rolled and slid and then I was in the air. Yes! Yes! I was thinking and stretched my wings to fly. But I was too little to fly.
I fell down, down and I could see the ground coming up at me, with a speed. Then, bump. I fell onto a soft, springy tuft of grass in the beautiful garden below, and bump, bump, and roll, roll and then stop.
I jumped up and shook myself off. Whew! That was close. I stopped to admire the garden I had seen from the nest above. It was more beautiful up close. So there will be no flying for me for a while then, I thought. A little more practice first, I thought. I made my way over to the fish pond which I had seen from above. I was poking my head just over the edge...
All of a sudden this great big ferocious looking dog comes bounding out of the house. Hair flaying as he ran. He sees me and turns to rush my way. This is not my day, I thought, and looking around, could see no place to hide, so I did the next best thing. I ducked my head and hoped for the best.
Great big jaws opened with big white flashing teeth as he came towards me.
All of a sudden I was in his mouth and drifting up into the air. To my amazement I was not getting sore and this felt like some kind of ride. His mouth was slightly open and I could see outside. He was not hurting me at all, just carrying me around.
Then I saw through his large teeth, a female human. She came running out of the house shouting at the dog to "let it go"and "put it down".
He hesitated at first and then after a little more persuasion he opened his mouth and gently put me down on the ground.
Bad dog blah! blah! blah!...and I was whisked up and away from the ground and then rushed into the house. Strange nests these humans have I thought. She took me inside and put me on a table.
First came the inspection. Had I been hurt? Checking all my limbs to see if anything was broken. Pulling my little wings out gently to see if they were OK. Chirping loudly in objection did not help. All it got me was a "Oh! Shame. Are you hungry?" Now who would be hungry after an ordeal like that?
With that I saw her jersey come off and the next thing I was bundled up in it and placed on the couch. Nothing to complain about. It was soft and cozy. But I was still in shock from all the activity. I tried to settle down. I was just dozing off when she came back in to feed me.
